For three weeks Svenja and Benjamin had the chance to experience California, its people, hosts and host families, school, landscape, sights & surroundings. An awesome chance to see San Diego, Vista, the Pacific and Los Angeles, San Francisco and more.
We were curious to learn about their insights a bit differently: by asking them to evaluate their experiences, the different cultural aspects they realized – and we wondered, whether their Californian Encounters changed them, in which way ever, following Bertolt Brecht’s little Keuner story:
Ein Mann, der Herrn K. lange nicht gesehen hatte, begrüßte ihn mit den Worten:“Sie haben sich gar nicht verändert.” “Oh!” sagte Herr K. und erbleichte.- Bertolt Brecht, Das Wiedersehen
According to my journey to Vista and San Francisco in California, USA, under organisation of the exchange program GAPP from the 7th of March, until the 28th of March I am going to analyze the experiences I gained there and the experience I was able to capture. Together with 15 school mates we travelled from Aurich via Bremen, Frankfurt, San Francisco and San Diego to Vista.
In the following I am going to discuss whether and in what way an exchange to a foreign country can influence a person and his or her view on the world.
